“Local live hip-hop quartet Hardheadz pushed up a fine debut in 2004's Addicted, tapping into the same live hip-hop band vibe as the Roots without sounding too much like the Philly veterans. Hardheadz--MC Mike Allen, keyboardist Jeremy Demby, drummer Stephen Demby, and guitarist Jason Motoshige--work an almost down-tempo vibe on Addicted, from the velvety chill of ‘Smoke Clears’ to the Latin-tinged "Rock Off" and the reggaefied stroll ‘Oh No.’ Live, however, the Hardheadz hit harder, and you can bet they will tonight when the group records a live album at the Royal.”
 | Black Eyed Peas, Gang Starr Find Love at TU

“Breakdancers and crowd surfers piled into the Towson Center Thursday night, where hip hop acts Black Eyed Peas and Gang Starr found love with a ‘rowdy’ Towson crowd. Local hip hop group Hardheadz came onstage first and audience members bobbed their heads in unison to the loud, heavy beats supplied by the drums and keyboard. The group, which includes lyricist Michael Allen, guitarist Jason Motoshige, drummer Steve Demby and keyboardist Jeremy Demby, won a battle of the bands in the spring and performed at the 2003 TigerFest.

“…Several acts are starting to make their mark and get some serious attention from labels like Def Jam. From just outside the city, in Towson, the Hardheadz are bringing their own version of the Roots' ‘hip-hop band’ concept. Along with these three big players, a myriad of smaller acts and labels have been diligently working to make their presence known...”
 | Hardheadz New Album, "Addicted," Provides Alternative to Typical Hip-Hop Style
(Jesse Trawinski, Towson Towerlight, September 9th 2004) |
Local group Hardheadz, who won last year’s Battle of the Bands and played at TigerFest, has released their first full-length album. The CD, “Addicted,” dropped in April and Hardheadz celebrated the release in style. “It was a good show, high energy. We brought in some other musicians and we had the people that were on the album sing with us live.” The group is now working to promote their album by doing shows and spreading the word. The album is a mixed medley of assorted grooves that showcases the many different influences of the band.
